Born: San Jose, California

My apron is a tribute and dedication to the lives of my heroes, loved ones, friends, acquaintances, and myself. Those of us who by some simple twist of fate have been chosen to be a part of a very unique sisterhood...Breast Cancer victims, survivors, and statistics.

The names of the women on my apron are all people that I have known or become acquainted with (starting with the first I can remember, at about age 8) who have had Breast Cancer. I honor those who have gone before me for their courage. For many, they suffered so I wouldn’t have to, for others they have been my strength...my rocks...who have inspired me to triumph over this disease. All are to be remembered with dignity for the ways they had to deal with their diagnosis and the changes that it brought into their lives. I respect those who have come after me for the fact that Breast Cancer is still a threat in their lives. No one shall be forgotten.

About my own part in this story...I am the tree of life. Gold and silver represent how precious my life is. The objects attached to the tree are totems to me. My journey since my breast cancer diagnosis hasn’t been all bad, a metamorphosis of sorts. I have come to learn the importance of a single voice and the difference that it can make. That after surviving breast cancer there isn’t much left to fear and that nothing is more sacred than being true to yourself.

I consider being part of this a precious honor and privilege. It will become another jewel in my crown.
