Helen Knisely, 58 Born: Shanghai, China. Something GOOD actually came out of my having breast cancer! Once the chemo treatments were over, my psyche was able to determine exactly what disorder I have. A second opinion arrived at the same conclusion; I am an affective bi-polar. This is a genetic disorder where the brain does not allow certain electrical impulses to connect with the right receptors. My present husband is like an “angel from Heaven” (almost!). Because he knew Christmas was my favorite Holiday, we were married a week before in 1981. He has helped me in all my music endeavors and has been an wazzu extraordinarily compassionate and patient person as I went (and still do go) through my illness. When my mind is still, I pray, meditate, and envision peace. But this is very difficult for me... I have overcome any adversity by using a combination of gifts I’ve been given; a positive attitude and a sense of humor, a surprising resilience, and the knowledge that we all have our difficulties throughout our lives so I AM NOT ALONE.
