“La Vie En Rose...”

My experience with breast cancer in 1991, my 50th year, made me focus very clearly on all I have to be grateful for. This tapestry is my way of expressing my appreciation for my family, for special friends, for good doctors, for wonderful experiences I’ve had, for all the music, food and movies I’m able to enjoy--even for my own ability to express myself creatively!

WORDS and COLOR are my primary way of expressing myself. Isak Dinesen’s wonderful quotation about salt water as a cure, and Wordsworth’s quotation about how his soul was nurtured have always been favorites of mine. Hence, they form the top and bottom “philosophies” framing my life.

I began my tapestry with only two specific ideas: first my Breast Cancer Palm Tree...one coconut remaining, while the other has fallen to the seashore; secondly, my NAMES BORDER of special friends.

I’ve also always loved to look out over WATER. The palm tree represents my moving form the Pacific Northwest to California, as well as reminding me of many wonderful tropical vacations. I’ve watched great blue herons, feasted on crab, and run along seashores, in both cold and warm locales. The seaside scene on my apron bib integrates many, many key life experiences!
