| Anne Cooney Submitted for Mary Ann Gooldrup of Palo Alto, California, who died at age 40. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell my little sisters story, as she is no longer with us and cant tell it herself. It is still hard to believe that her voice was silenced and her dynamic spirit snuffed out by an enemy she couldnt see or understand, which she was totally powerless against. Mary was retarded--she had a hard life with many obstacles, but also a fulfilling and rewarding life--she could melt your heart with her smile and hug and laughter. I attempted to incorporate her artwork with mine, to emphasize how colorful her life was, and hopefully through her paintings let you see how she viewed the world. The background weaving was made by Mary, along with her artwork surrounding the display, and topped off by a self portrait. I used rainbow ribbon to connect parts of the story. I missed her funeral as I was sick from chemotherapy the day before, but they tell me there were dozens of pink roses on her coffin--her favorite color.
